Don’t have a heating plan yet? Don’t sweat – Farr Mechanical has you covered!
Our consulting packages are perfect for builders and clients who are looking to simplify the process of selecting and designing the right heating system. Whether it’s an addition, a whole home renovation, or a new custom build, every project is unique. No two heating plans are the same and there is no one-size-fits-all HVAC system.
Think of the mechanical system as the ‘veins’ of the home, circulating heat and fresh air throughout. Those veins are buried deep behind the walls and have the important job of keeping the home warm, well-ventilated and comfortable. As we often say, you can change the kitchen cabinets, the bathroom sink, or the hardwood floors if you’re not happy with them, but you can’t change the HVAC unless you gut the home. That’s why it is so important to choose the right type of system, the right equipment, the right contractor and the right design the first time.
By trusting us to guide you through the process, you remove the stress of researching your options, searching for qualified contractors and design engineers, co-ordinating between multiple parties, and solving problems caused by unqualified trades.
Instead, we ensure you are well-informed, confident, and stress-free throughout every step of planning and installation.

Trying to decide between gas and electric? Comparing the pros and cons of hydronic versus forced air? Debating the addition of floor warming? With our expertise, we will help you select the best heating system for your home based on factors such as: budget, floorplan, architectural design, aesthetics, desired comfort level, efficiency, and so on.
Once the type of system has been selected, we will arrange to have a complete custom heating plan drawn up based on the specific criteria you’ve chosen. This includes a mechanical drawing of each floor in the home and a detailed heat loss/heat gain calculation. We will gladly review these documents with you and answer any questions you have.
Changes happen. Perhaps you decide to add another room, change the ceiling height or remove some windows. Those revisions will typically alter the heat loss calculations and/or the system’s design. But don’t worry – as your consultant, we will arrange to have the plans recalculated and revised for you.
The next step is to obtain permits. This is typically handled by the general contractor, who will submit the heating plans along with the architectural plans.
Once all of the above steps have been completed, we will collect your deposit, order the material, and coordinate with the general contractor, builder, or project manager to find the right time for us to install the system. Custom homes and large-scale renovations involve a lot of moving parts and coordination of trades. From extensive experience, we know what to expect and when to expect it. We make every effort to stay up-to-date on the completion status of the home and answer questions to help coordination go smoothly.
At Farr Mechanical, we have separate in-house teams dedicated to different parts of the installation. This way, we ensure that each step of the process is completed by a highly trained expert. We will organize for our sheet metal team to install the duct system, our hydronic team to install the boiler or heat pump system, and we will bring in our certified gas and refrigeration technicians to install the furnaces, A/Cs and hot water tanks. The install is done quickly and correctly, then we leave the job site clean and ready for the next trade.
Our services don't end after installation. We're only a call away if you have any questions or concerns after move-in, and we will gladly return for annual service and maintenance to ensure your system runs smoothly and lasts for as long as possible.
